"Make yourself a rainbow. Even though its presence is temporary, it cheers every word." I first met Anas Saifuddin when both of us joined a forum named Malakat92. We were in Form Three and we were going to take Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) examination on that October. Anas got a not-so-bad result in his UPSR examination, thus, he continued his studies at SMK Taman Ehsan, Kepong, Selangor.
Anas was a happy-go-lucky person. We became the best of friends and were the members of 7 United. Afterall, he struggled his best for his PMR examination. At last, he got his result with flying colours. Doesn't it like rainbow colours? He waited for the offer from Science Schools and Technical Schools. He got an offer from Kuala Lumpur Technical School in General Engineering. He was in dilemma for a while, whether to transfer to that Technical School or to remain staying at Taman Ehsan.
Second of February was the date which he was informed about the offer from the Science School. He was so lucky because he got an offer from Seremban Science School which is the best Boarding School in Malaysia. That Science School had done well in SPM 2007.
Then, the change came. Anas's grades started falling. He was often absent from school. He looked pale and unhealthy. I always asked him whether he was sick or not. He grumbled for all my questions. No amount of cajoling would make him talk about his problem. The hostility robbed Anas of his self-esteem.
Meanwhile, I passed my SPM exam and went to further study at University of Malaya. One evening, I received a call. It was from my long-last friend, Anas. I rushed to the place where he said he wanted to meet me. I found him sitting dejectedly on a bench by a roadside, near the Selayang Hospital.
He greeted me and I was so curious to know his story. Actually, he has a brain tumour and he was sent to the Selayang Hospital. The doctors confirmed him that he had brain cancer but it was not too serious.
Meanwhile, 7 United that consists of myself, Awin, Yus, Airin, Anas, Chong and Akeem, organised a gathering on 25 November 2017. The root manager of this site, Najmi, contributed some money to hold this activity. This reunion was set at the McDonald Restaurant at Kuala Lumpur City Centre. Many of us were excited and we were planned to join this reunion activity. It was so exciting.
One night, I received a call from Anas's sister. It seemed an urgent call and I rushed to the venue given, that is at Selayang Hospital. His sister told us that he was in a critical situation. "Anas, do not leave us!!". I responded to his sister. Later, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit as she told doctors checked on him, we were all informed that our friend had passed away. Goodbye, Anas. I will always miss you. I will always remember your RAINBOW.
No one can replace Anas from my heart. He was my best buddy forever. Suddenly, the rain stopped and I saw the rainbow there as I stood at the verandah looking at the sky. It was quite cool and transquil. 25th November 2017 will always be in my mind and I really hope that you are peaceful at the next world. I can just pray for you and let you go. I am regretted because I did not reply your letter previously.
